About us

Transmitting, thinking about and sharing music: these are the ambitions pursued by Symétrie in its publishing policy.

Symétrie is an independent publishing house specialising in music. Founded in 1999 by musicians who had graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, Symétrie has made a name for itself through the quality of its publications and the editorial, graphic and typographic care it brings to each of its projects.

Books

Symétrie is a book publisher dedicated to publishing quality texts in French for music lovers, musicians and teachers, alternating between practical and scholarly books, translations and research works.

Its collection of scientific books, Symétrie Recherche, reflects the evolution of musicology, a relatively recent academic discipline which began as a historical, literary and biographical science and has gradually opened up to the social sciences (sociology, ethnology, gender) and musical techniques (composition, analysis, film music). It welcomes in-depth works on music in its various forms and in its multiple relationships with the other arts, history and society, and is managed by a scientific committee.

Symétrie also publishes works on pedagogy, voice medicine (osteopathy and speech therapy), biographies, writings by musicians and novels, in paperback or larger format (studies, monographs, dictionaries or manuals), as well as shorter texts in the form of articles in the journal Tempus perfectum.

Scores

Symétrie is a sheet music publisher specialising in French baroque, romantic and contemporary music. In the fields of opera, symphonic music and chamber music, Symétrie’s mission is to promote the rediscovery of France’s musical heritage of the 19th century (1780-1920) by offering a wide selection of little-known works by French composers such as Méhul, Reicha, d’Ollone, Dalayrac, Saint-Saëns and Cras.

Symétrie is also keen to promote the work of contemporary composers such as Henry Fourès, Yves Castagnet, Franck Villard, Anthony Girard, Guy Sacre, etc. The last of our musical publications is in the educational and vocal fields.

Services

Symétrie distributes the works of other publishers, particularly in the field of music (Société française de musicologie, Ambronay Éditions, ProMusica, Rubin, Éditions du C.N.S.M.D. de Lyon, etc.) and ships worldwide every working day. Symétrie also markets its in-house know-how in the form of services: training in music writing software, ERP software for managing publishing houses, software for calculating authors’ rights.
