Maurice Hooikammer

Maurice Hooikammer was born in 1999 in the Dutch city of Zwolle.

As the son of two organists, he came into contact with music at an early age. At the age of eight he started playing the horn, taking lessons from Joanne van Loo-Lindeboom, Hendry van Loo and Albert Dam. He obtained the C diploma from the Dutch Wind Music Association with distinction. He is studying clarinet with Yfynke Hoogeveen and orchestral conducting with Lucas Vis, former director of the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

As a first horn player he has been able to play with the fanfares De Eendracht from Wezep and CMH from Hattem, as well as the symphony orchestras De Vuurvogel from Zwolle and Krashna Musika from Delft in leading concert halls such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Amare in The Hague.

In 2022 he was allowed to conduct the Youth Symphony Orchestra De Vuurvogel during a tour of Northern Italy, where he performed the work of the same name by Igor Stravinsky (The Firebird).

Maurice Hooikammer taught himself how to arrange. He focuses mainly on Yves Castagnet’s music which made a deep impression on him. With Castagnet’s permission, he makes orchestrations of his compositions to make this music known to a wider audience in another way.
