So rich and various is the orchestral writing of The Cunning Little Vixen that countless possibilities are opened up for adaptation. The aim of the present one is to bring the luminous complexity of the score into sharp relief in a reduction for chamber ensemble: piano, violin, violoncello, flute, clarinet, percussion. It is a way of letting us hear, more intimately, the words and music of this “merry tale with a sad ending”, as the composer puts it.
