This Mass, written by Puccini during his studies, normally requires an orchestra. The version for two pianos presented here preserves a large dynamic space, thanks to the orchestrator’s skill, and makes it accessible to many choirs.
The first performance of this version was given in Annecy in 2007 by the Chœur départemental de Savoie and the Conservatoire Chamber Choir conducted by Bernard Spizzi.
As the choral score is available from a number of publishers, we did not feel it necessary to republish it. Only the sets of the two piano parts are therefore available. The bar numbers correspond to the Carus material and the reference letters to the Ricordi material.
Press Overview
Let us specify immediately that this is an arrangement that allows a choir to perform the Messa di Gloria for choir and orchestra with just two pianos. […] No doubt it will be much appreciated by many fine choirs who cannot afford the services of a large orchestra.
